Tuesday, September 3, 2013 - Labor Day Weekend

I had two choices in how I could spend Labor Day weekend - the first was to spend the weekend in Tahoe with good friends. But with that came gambling on how long I was actually going to be in the car dealing with Labor Day traffic. The second choice was to stay in the valley and spend it with good friends sans traffic. I chose the latter and it was the right call. It was the perfect weekend combining quality time with close friends, delicious food and wine and a few visits to places I’d never been. Below are a few photos I took along the way. - Kerrin Laz, Wine Director / wine@deandeluca.com

SATURDAY- Oakville Grocery for coffee and to see their garden, then onto take photos in Oakville and Yountville AVAs before heading to my friend Allison's family vineyard, Steltzner Vineyards, in Stags Leap District for poolside fun, sun, swimming, Ad Hoc Addendum’s lobster rolls and Allison and Sam’s homemade tomato & corn salad fresh from their garden. Last stop, Ciccio Restaurant in Yountville - one of my favorite spots in the valley. Menu changes frequently using fresh produce from their garden, letting the ingredients shine. Frank Altamura’s garden has over 400 tomato plants so he sent us home with a few pints. awesome.

SUNDAY - big morning run through the vineyards then off to Spring Mountain AVA to visit Liz and Jamie Leahy at Marston Family Vineyard to relax at the pool, enjoy my favorite cheese and charcuteries from DEAN & DELUCA, bubbly and Jamie's grilled homemade pizza. Then a quick stop to York Creek Vineyards for the annual Spring Mountain AVA harvest party – the real deal – a celebration of the harvest to come with most of the wineries in the AVA attending. Last stop, Redd in Yountville – another favorite restaurant of mine. Still one of their best menu options is the sashimi of Hamachi.

MONDAY- morning ride to Oakville's Cardinale Winery to take some photos of the incredible morning sky. then off to

Redd Wood for some great wild mushroom pizza. Later in the evening, sunset walk with my dog Ramsey before heading to

Ad Hoc for their TKFC - Thomas Keller's fried chicken.
