Made the traditional way in the town of Saronno, Italy, these crunchy little amaretti cookies taste pretty much the same as they did in the 18th century, when they were first created to celebrate a visit from the Cardinal of Milan. Three simple ingredients—egg whites, sugar and apricot kernels—are blended, slowly baked, and sprinkled with sparkling white sugar before being individually wrapped and packed into their iconic red window box.
