Joel Dean and Giorgio DeLuca dreamed of creating a place that would offer customers a sumptuous celebration of food and a venue to experience all of the pleasures that cooking and eating can bring. The original DEAN & DELUCA opened for business in September 1977 in SoHo, then an edgy artist and warehouse district in lower Manhattan. The original store was designed to evoke a turn of the century food department, replete with ceiling fans spinning over a vast array of products that lined the soaring white walls of this enchanted emporium.
Since our initial store opening, DEAN & DELUCA has added additional locations in New York City; Washington D.C.; Charlotte, North Carolina; Kansas City, Kansas and Napa Valley, California.

INTERNATIONAL HISTORY & EXPANSION
DEAN & DELUCA opened its first international location in Tokyo in 2003 with our first international license partner, Itochu/DEAN & DELUCA Japan. Since then DEAN & DELUCA Japan has grown to 11 locations in two cities, and continues to set expansion plans in other urban markets in Japan.
In 2007, DEAN & DELUCA signed its second license with M.H. Alshaya Co., as a licensee for a multi-country territory in the Middle East. After opening a flagship location in Kuwait City in 2009, they have added two locations in Dubai and a market in Doha, Qatar and are setting growth plans for additional countries in the region.
In 2010 DEAN & DELUCA signed additional license agreements in Thailand (PACE Development), South Korea (Shinsegae) and Turkey (Mekassa) with partners who will bring the energy and excitement of the DEAN & DELUCA brand to world-class cities and further expand our global footprint.
DEAN & DELUCA is excited to be meeting with and discussing the potential for our brand in many countries around the world, and we are committed to continuing our expansion to corners of the world where food is a central part of culture and of life—which, we believe, is just about everywhere.

LICENSE PROGRAM SUMMARY
DEAN & DELUCA offers brand licenses for full country territories. A license differs from a franchise in that the DEAN & DELUCA brand requires a degree of localization to ensure relevance to the local marketplace in every territory. Our license structure provides the licensee with rights to use the DEAN & DELUCA brand in the territory to operate as a multi-channel retailer under a structured contract.
DEAN & DELUCA is interested in licensing directly to brand owners/operators. We do not offer any type of “Master” territory license that would allow for a sub-license.
Our key criteria for licensee operators of our brand include:
• EXPERIENCE in retail, food and beverage in the luxury, high end segment
• REAL ESTATE experience and access to prime real estate in a high end retail environment
• CAPITAL sufficient to ensure a full expansion of the brand in a territory
• TEAM & TALENT with experience to execute a high quality multi-channel brand rollout in the territory
• BRAND AFFINITY and an understanding of lifestyle brands and food culture
• HIGH ETHICAL STANDARDS and a reputation for honest business dealings
Our license terms generally include:
• An initial territory fee based on market potential
• A sales royalty
• NO location fees per opening
• NO advertising fees
We currently have the following territories under license agreements:
• The Middle East — including Kuwait, Qatar, UAE, Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and other countries
• South Korea
