Carver Sutro

The grapes for Carver Sutro Petite Sirah are sourced exclusively from Palisades Vineyard. The 18 acre vineyard is in a private valley northeast of Calistoga and has been productive for more than a century, dry-farmed for ninety years by Italian immigrant and homesteader Domenico Barberis and his children. It has survived droughts and floods, and even Prohibition – during which time Barberis made sacramental wine for churches. For almost 20 years Anne Carver and Denis Sutro have carried on the vineyard’s century old tradition of wine making and, as one prominent critic put it: “The site is uniquely suited to Petite Sirah; the wines are consistent - typically voluptuous and powerful, and yet elegant.” As Sutro put it: “It has been both an inspiring and humbling experience to make wine from this historic vineyard. To be presented with the chance to create the very best of anything may be a once in a lifetime opportunity for us and we have enthusiastically engaged.”
