In vino felicitas. In wine there is happiness. Vintner and winemaker Anna Monticelli’s goal for Ilaria Wines is to produce small lot offerings that will stand as testaments to her belief that fine wine comes from the earth, its sense of place a key component in shaping its character. In sourcing fruit for Ilaria, Anna concentrates on securing unique lots that are not shy about expressing their heritage – the soil and climate in which they were grown, where that combination of great terrior and viticultural expertise merge. Her journey began at the University of California Davis, where she earned a degree in viticulture and enology, then continued in France where she studied at the Sorbonne. During that period, Anna developed a love for French wine and wanted to return and experience an old-world harvest and in the fall of 2000, worked at Château Cheval-Blanc. Upon returning to Napa in 2000, Anna spent two years as the assistant winemaker at Seavey Vineyard before working for four years as the assistant winemaker at Bryant Family Vineyard. In the spring of 2007, she became the winemaker at Piña Napa Valley. Ilaria Wines includes a Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Malbec and a red wine blend.
