World’s End Wines
Described by Robert Parker as a 'visionary, self-styled revolutionary' and the ‘English winemaking guru’, Jonathan Maltus cut his teeth in the fine wine business during the ‘garage revolution’ in Saint Emilion, France during the 1990’s. Chateau Teyssier, a Saint Emilion Grand Cru Estate, has expanded from 14 to 125 acres, into one of the main players of Saint Emilion (capturing three 5 Stars from Decanter with the 2010 vintage – including its flagship wine, Le Dôme). “World’s End is our adventure in Napa, California started with the 2008 vintage when we imported wooden vats and sorting tables to produce Napa wines with a French slant from fruit handpicked mainly from the finest vineyards in Napa – those of Andy Beckstoffer. We make 1,200 cases of prime wine from three Single Vineyards – ToKalon Vineyard, Missouri Hopper Vineyard, both in Oakville and Sugarloaf Mountain to the north-west of Napa. In 2009 we underpinned the more ethereal Single Vineyard wines with our Napa Valley Reserve wines. These are all vineyard designated blocks from both mountain and valley ridge terroir. The Consulting Oenologue is Gilles Pauquet, who works also with Chateaux Cheval Blanc, Canon & Figeac. The winemakers are Jonathan Maltus and Neil Whyte.
