Skinner Vineyards is a family owned winery and vineyard that focuses on Rhone varietals. The Skinner family has winemaking roots that go back to the gold rush era when James Skinner started one of California's first wineries in the 1860's. Today, Mike & Carey Skinner have drawn from their past to create a new winery in the same region, growing some of the same varieties from 150 years ago. The estate vineyard, winery, and tasting room are located in the tiny Fair Play AVA of El Dorado. The 11 Rhone varietals they grow are planted on steep, granitic hillsides that sit at an elevation of 2700'. The wines are crafted by Chris Pittenger who oversees the limited 1500 case production.
