The Sonoma Coast is known for its high rainfall and cool temperatures compared with other AVAs in the region. Because it is one of the largest AVAs and covers as far inland as Petaluma to as far west as the coast, wineries are very specific when discussing where in the Sonoma Coast AVA they are located. There are a group of wineries along the coastline that are working to break down the Sonoma Coast AVA into smaller AVAs. Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Syrah thrive in this region and offer a great depth of flavor and texture.
