Matthiasson Napa Valley Red 2007
Steve Matthiasson is a name you should store in your wine glossary. As the consulting vineyard manager for such luminaries as Araujo, Spottswoode, Chappellet and David Arthur, his newest winemaking project is his own and we're grateful to be able to offer his '07 Napa Valley Red. Comprised of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cab Franc, Petit Verdot and a touch of Malbec, this offering glides onto the palate with refreshing notes of deep fruit and dark chocolate (it really does!) that continue to linger after you take your sip. - Kerrin Laz, Wine Director
T-Vine Psychedelic Rooster Red 2008
Big, bold, mouthwatering—these are the three components of this new offering from T-Vine Cellars. The Psychedelic Rooster label has once again taken on a new life. First it was a big Rosé. Then it became a bold dessert wine. Now Psychedlic Rooster has emerged as a blend of Zinfandel and Petite Sirah from the Napa Valley. And like the other Roosters, this '08 is overflowing with deep, dark fruit that drinks like a Petite Sirah. 300 cases produced. - Kerrin Laz, Wine Director
Cherry Pie Stanly Ranch Pinot Noir 2008
Into its second vintage, Jayson Woodbridge of Hundred Acre is now in the Pinot game and doing a good job of it to say the least. This one, from the Stanly Ranch Vineyard in Carneros has elegant red fruit notes and a touch of earthiness. Incredibly smooth, it's even better if you let it sit for an hour before drinking. It flew out of our inventory last year, and we expect that to happen again with this newly released offering.
Vineyard 29 Cru Cabernet Sauvignon 2007
Since its inception in 2000, Vineyard 29 has earned the reputation of producing terroir-driven offerings that reveal structure, elegance and richness. Under the guidance of winemaker Keith Emerson, the '07 Napa Valley Cru Cabernet Sauvignon is the culmination of great vineyard sourcing throughout the Napa Valley and in the glass, can be enjoyed now. We tasted this new release with some wine friends visiting the Napa Valley and based on their looks of approval and smiles on their face, it hit the spot.
Flowers Andreen-Gale Pinot Noir 2007
Since 1989, Flowers Winery has been producing high-quality Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir from their rugged vineyards, located less than two miles from the Pacific Coast at an elevation that reaches 1,875 feet. This extreme terroir makes the Pinot grape work hard for success, but when it succeeds a wine like the '07 Andreen-Gale is the result. Focused, with dark fruit that lingers on the palate in a smooth, silky finish, this is pure hedonism. - Kerrin Laz, Wine Director
Cobb Rice-Spivak Vineyard Pinot Noir 2007
Cobb is a small producer specializing in Pinot Noir. The production for the winery is less than 1000 cases total for three different bottlings. The Rice-Spivak Vineyard is true Sonoma Coast—a few miles from the coast. Before Ross Cobb started his own winery, he gained his Pinot experience while working as the winemaker at Flowers. This 360-case production of '07 is deep fruited with notes of crushed violet, and should not be missed.
