New Offering Archives

Abreu, Buccella, Dalla Valle, Maybach, Vine Hill Ranch, Spottswoode

Happy Tuesday! -  Pretty exiciting news- I leave this Wed to launch our new DEAN & DELUCA wine bar in Bangkok! Opening a wine café in Bangkok isn’t the most newsworthy story but our strategic partner in Thailand is the Real Estate development company that’s building The MahaNakhon building – this will be Thailand’s tallest building when finished. In addition to the D&D Wine Café, there will also be the first Ritz-Carlton Residences in The MahaNakhon. See architect’s link to this - So I’ll get in late Thurs eve and do press interviews Friday and then host a wine dinner of the wines I selected for the wine café. Saturday I’ll co-host the launch party and dinner and then leave on a 6am flight on Sunday. With the new releases below, please let me know as soon as possible so I can put the wine aside for you before I take off. We can either ship your wine to you or hold in our temp controlled warehouse until it cools down.
For 12 bottle case purchases, whether solid or mixed, you can receive 10% on the retail below unless it says net. Also, let me know if you’re interested in more of some of the other wines you picked up.

Vine Hill Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon 2008 – this is the best new Cab producer of the year so far. Vine Hill Ranch is located in Oakville and is really a miniature Napa Valley in the Napa Valley – their 70-acre vineyard encompasses floor, bench land and mountain Cabernet Sauvignon. Longtime growers for such wineries as BOND, Mondavi Reserve, Etude and Cakebread, vineyard manager Mike Wolf and winemaker Francoise Peschon (former winemaker for Araujo and vintner of Drinkward Peschon) are now taking the best fruit for VHR’s 300 case production. Highly recommend trying a few bottles. Allocation is small – orders will be filled as received. $165/btl net

Abreu Rothwell Hyde Cabernet Sauvignon 2007 – this is the much-anticipated release of David Abreu’s second label, Rothwell Hyde. Made by Brad Grimes, this Cab is a cuvee of different barrels that didn’t get blended into the single vineyard offerings (Thorevilos, Cappella, Madrona). HIGHLY suggest. 2007 was an outstanding vintage for this winery and the second label is even better than most wineries’ flagship offerings at this price point. $125/btl

Buccella Cabernet Sauvignon 2008 – “A blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, it exhibits an opaque purple color, great intensity and a sweet nose of blue and black fruits intermixed with toasty oak, lead pencil shavings and forest floor. Rich, layered and full-bodied with silky tannins, this broad, savory 2008 should drink well for 15 or more years.” – 95 Pts, R. Parker  - $153/btl net

Buccella Merlot 2008 – 233 cases were produced of this incredibly rich, deep-fruited Merlot. Celia Welch (think Scarecrow, Keever, Lindstrom, Kelly Fleming) is now the consulting winemaker for Buccella with Rebekah Wineburg as winemaker. This is one of the hardest Merlots to obtain, would highly suggest trying a few bottles.  $90/btl

Dalla Valle, Collina Dalla Valle Cabernet Sauvignon 2008 – this is a must-try ’08 Oakville Estate Cabernet Sauvignon from Dalla Valle. Andy Erickson (winemaker for Ovid, Favia and Arietta) has created a great second growth Cabernet Sauvignon off of the Dalla Valle vineyard in the western bench of Oakville. Smooth and silky in tannin, this reveals that great purity of deep cassis and purple fruit on the palate. $98/btl

Maybach Cabernet Sauvignon – since I’ve been supporting Maybach from their debut through current vintage, was able to get a small vertical release and a little of their new release. Maybach is located on the eastern Oakville bench, neighboring Dalla Valle and Tierra Roja. Thomas Rivers Brown is the winemaker. Most know Thomas through his efforts as Schrader, Outpost & Casa Piena and now also at Revana, Jones Family & Harris Estate.
1btl each of Maybach ’04, ’05, ’06 -  there are 12 of these mini-verticals avail as of now. $495 net
Maybach ’08 – there are 7btls of this avail as of now. $165 net
Spottswoode Lyndenhurst Cabernet Sauvignon 2008 – A GREAT second label – sourced from the Spottswoode estate and a few other key vineyard sources. This is one winery that has been doing it continually well for over 20 years. $68/btl net

Great Buy Wines
DEAN & DELUCA Chardonnay by Fisher Vineyards 2008 – after MUCH success with our inaugural ’07 vintage of our own Proprietary Chardonnay made with Fisher, we just released the ’08 and it’s drinking really well. It’s got the classic notes of Sonoma Chard but has the acidity to keep the fruit and oak in balance. Highly recommend and not just because I created this label but because we’ve already used for a few private tastings and people that like Chard and even a few that didn’t have an affinity towards the grape liked it. $38/btl

Bridesmaid Red 2007 – Pam Starr, winemaker/owner of Crocker & Starr and Bridesmaid, stopped by last week and tasted me on the new Bridesmaid vintage – this is a GREAT BUY Cabernet Sauvignon. The 07 vintage is even better than 06- deep black and purple fruit notes, persistent tannin, open and enjoy after letting sit for about 20-30 minutes. Highly recommend! $43/btl

Casaeda Cabernet Sauvignon 2008 – this is Karen Culler’s newer label. Most know Karen for her winemaking talents at Wolf Family, Ladera and her own label, Culler. Casaeda Cabernet Sauvignon. The ’08 Cab is sourced from Howell Mountain and drinks like a $50 Cab. Full-bodied, great mountain structure and is evolving with balance in the bottle. $35/btl

Cultivar Cabernet Sauvignon 2008 – this is my friend Dan O’Brian’s, Wine Director at Cavallo Pt in Sausalito, own project. He sources juice from some of the properties where Bob Foley is winemaker- GREAT PARTY WINE- appeals to all palates, lush fruit notes, easy-drinking. $27/btl

Let us know if you have any questions about these wines!
Thanks a lot,
