New Offering Archives

DuMOL, Dominus, Gemstone, Dancing Hares Mad Hatter & O’Shaughnessy Library Offering

Below are new releases I just brought into DEAN & DELUCA. We are VERY cold in the Napa Valley today but know that the majority of the country is not. So we can hold shipping until fall if you'd like.

I leave for Aspen next week - first time we'll have a DEAN & DELUCA wine table at Aspen Food & Wine Festival! It's pretty great actually. I decided I wanted to get on board at the last minute and fortunately, my friend is the wine editor at F&W Magazine. He was able to pull some strings and even though tables are typically sold out months in advance, he was able to make this work for me. The main goal of getting a table is to launch our new DEAN & DELUCA Wine Clubs- I streamlined our existing clubs to make our new program a better option for gifting and to get our stores involved in wine club selling. I'll also be pouring 4-5 new wines and a great Limoncello. Let me know if you are making the trip out!

For 12 bottle case purchases, whether solid or mixed, you can receive 10% on the retail below unless it says net. Also, let me know if you’re interested in more of some of the other wines you picked up.

GEMSTONE, FACETS, RED 2008
Winemaker Philippe Melka created another great-drinking Facets- the '08, like many other wineries', possesses a little more weight and structure than the '07. Predominately Cab with some Merlot, Cab Franc and PV, this is a Red that shows its potential upon opening but could use a little time in the bottle. Tannins are silky and the fruit is pure. Philippe's been making this wine since their inception and continues to make incredible offerings not just for Gemstone but also Dana Estate, Melka Wines, Vineyard 29 and now Cliff Lede too. $75/btl

DANCING HARES, MAD HATTER, RED 2008
As a second label made by Andy Erickson (Ovid, Favia & Screaming Eagle), vineyard managed by David Abreu and Michel Rolland as a consultant, you won't find a better second wine at this price. And you won't find another wine made by those three guys for less than $125. Just tasted this last week and like the '07, a great wine for the price. The '08 is even more concentrated than the '07- same smooth tannin and silky dark fruit profile. This year's release is mainly 60% Cab with the rest being Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cab Franc. I wasn't able to get a lot of this, highly recommend. This is a one-time allocation. $69/btl

O'SHAUGHNESSY - THE 2005 LIBRARY OFFERINGS
Since I am highlighting O'Shaughnessy in our new wine website with video interviews from winemaker Sean Capiaux, they were able to pull some of their highly-touted 2005 vintage their Howell Mtn and Mt. Veeder Cab. I love the Mt. Veeder and think it's one of the best Cabs coming from this mountain. The Howell Mtn has lusher, big fruit. Both are incredible offerings and will drink well now but will also cellar well for another 5-6 years. Highly recommend trying a few bottles of each.

O'Shaughnessy Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 - $108/btl net
O'Shaughnessy Mt. Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 - $137/btl net

DuMOL RUSSIAN RIVER VALLEY 2009
I finally was able figure out allocation with DuMOL. The '09 vintages are now available. DuMOL is in the Top 5 of best RRV producers for Pinot Noir, Syrah and Chard each year. So consistently good, regardless of harvest conditions. The Pinot Noir is silky with a little earthy spice on the finish. The Syrah shows deep violet aromas, like a Northern Rhone. And the Chard is pure Meursault in style- hazelnutty, really aromatic and great natural acidity to keep the Chard from being to weighty or tiresome after a few glasses.
DuMOL RRV Chardonnay 2009 - $58/btl net
DuMOL RRV Pinot Noir 2009 - $74.5/btl net
DuMOL RRV Syrah 2009 - $62/btl net

DOMINUS ESTATE RED 2008
Tiny allocation, part of me doesn't even want to email about this because the production was so small for '08. Orders will be filled as received. $190/btl net

CAPIAUX, WIDDOES VINEYARD, PINOT NOIR 2008
Sean Capiaux, also winemaker for O'Shaughnessy, has been making small batch, single vineyard Pinots for over 10 years. It's hard to believe he's been producing Pinot for this long since his offerings always have relevancy and always sell out, rather than sell through vintages. The '08 Widdoes Vyd Pinot comes from the Russian River Valley and has great balance between fruit and earthiness. This is INCREDIBLE Pinot for the price. $40/btl

Let us know if you have any questions about these wines!
Thanks a lot,
