Revana & La Sirena New Releases & Library Offerings from Dalla Valle, Switchback Ridge & Revana

Even though we’re into the thick of summer and very few releases are typically offered this month, I was able to work out allocations of the new vintages of Revana and La Sirena as well as some great library offerings directly from the wineries. I would highly suggest getting some of these library releases as some of them are just starting to show their potential. Unlike other offerings that you might see other retailers, I’m sourcing these directly from the wineries so there’s no doubt about the condition in which they’ve been stored. Let me know if you have any questions!

To avoid cooking your wine in the summer heat, I wouldn’t ship anything unless you’re shipping for overnight delivery. If you would like to get these wines before we finish our allocation but want to hold until temps cool down in the fall, give a call 888.888.1343 and we can arrange that with you.

NEW OFFERINGS
Revana Cabernet Sauvignon 2008
I’m bringing this into our selection tomorrow. I’ve been fortunate to work closely with the Revana team and have been a loyal supporter of their wine year in and year out, regardless of vintages and regardless of hype. The ’08 Revana is an elegant offering that reveals a balance of fruit and earth. This new vintage is mainly Cabernet Sauvignon with a touch of Cab Franc and Petit Verdot. While Heidi Barrett has been their winemaker since their first vintage, Thomas Brown has taken over as winemaker. This ’08 though was made by Heidi. $150/btl

La Sirena Pirate TreasuRed 2008
This is Heidi’s first vintage of this new offering under La Sirena. Pirate TreasurRed is a bold, fun blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Petit Verdot, Cab Franc, Grenache & Petite Sirah – so basically, everything but the kitchen sink. Like other Blends with a lot of varietals, it works and drinks really well. It drinks like a Cab but reveals some spice and more personality on the palate. $64/btl

LIBRARY OFFERINGS
Dalla Valle Cabernet Sauvignon 2001
Interestingly enough, some wine critics recently re-tasted this 2001 offering and swear it tastes like it’s only a few years old. That says a lot about the quality and structure of this Oakville offering. This was made by Mia Klein and will have the potential to show its fruit and balance for another 8-10 years. This is a rare opportunity for such a stellar vintage, highly suggest. $165/btl

Revana Cabernet Sauvignon 2006
I like to refer to the 2006 vintage as a sleeper vintage. Upon release, the ‘06s weren’t showing their true potential because they were sleeping. Letting them rest for a little bit was the best thing we could do because upon re-tasting many of the ’06 Napa Cabs, they are incredible now and actually have more depth and nuance than the ‘05s. This ’06 is a prime example of this instance. $135/btl

Revana Cabernet Sauvignon 2005
This was one of the best vintages for Revana and the ’05 is starting to show really well now. A big, lush vintage for Napa Cabs in general, winemaker Heidi Barrett, since their first vintage in 2001, has made balanced offerings that show great purity of fruit but don’t tip the scale of being too ripe or over-extracted. $135/btl

Switchback Ridge Petite Sirah 2006
This is my favorite varietal that Switchback Ridge produces. And winemaker Bob Foley will agree that it’s probably some of the best Petite Sirah fruit grown in the Napa Valley. The ’06 Petite Sirah is showing full notes of inky blue fruit and can be enjoyed now. Let it sit for about a half-hour after you take the cork out, so it can open a little. $65/btl

Switchback Ridge Merlot 2005
Made by Bob Foley, this Calistoga vineyard produces top-notch offerings of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah. The ’05 Merlot is drinking really well now and is still concentrated with black fruit with toasty espresso. The tannins have mellowed out since its release and show their quality in the glass. This is Merlot for those that are typically only into Cabernet because the substance and weight is in-line with a great Cab. $65/btl

Let us know if you have any questions about these wines!
Thanks a lot,
