We loved this wine at first sip- really, we did! While the 2004 was incredible, the 2005 is equally balanced with beautiful notes of black fruit and cassis showing. Sourced from barrels of the single vineyard BOND labels (Vecina, Melbury, St Eden & Pluribus), we like the Matriarch for first and foremost for its balance and secondly for its approachability. The single vineyard BONDs beg for more time in the bottle whereas the Matriarch can be enjoyed after an hour of decanting. As usual, Bill Harlan and longtime winemaker Bob Levy have perfected the art of creating another stellar Matriarch. USA
