When we think of Grand Cru vineyard sites in California, the famed Beckstoffer ToKalon vineyard is one of the first to come to mind. Vintner Macauley (Mac) Watson and his longtime friend and winemaker Kirk Venge are hitting their stride, making a superb Cab from this great land without the heavy price that some Beckstoffer Tokalons command. Vintner's Perspective
"This is a wonderful example of a wine with style, poise and polish. It shows finesse and focus with aromas of bright black cherry, kirsh, lively oak vanillin and even light red fruit incense. The flavors are balanced with rounded cherry and an abundance of sweet red fruit. It is a tactile wine with superb structure, but again reserved and refined in nature which is a trademark of the To Kalon property. I believe that cellared correctly, this wine should bode well for 15 to 20 years or longer."
