Cobb Jack Hill Pinot Noir 2007
#COB07JH3 | 750mL
This is one of the best Pinots I've tasted in the last week.Ross Cobb, the winemaker, and David, the father and vintner, just released this. Ross used to work with Williams Selyem and Flowers before starting Cobb. They work differently thanother wineries in that they release when they think their offerings are starting to show their potential. This '07 Jack Hill comes from Jack Hill Vineyard, a 2-acre plot near Occidental. Rich notes of briary fruit with layered spice- this is a powerful Pinot Noir and will show even better withmore time in the bottle. - Kerrin Laz, Wine Director
Vintner's Perspective
This two-cre vineyard sits on a ridge above the Freestone Valley, a few miles from Coastlands and Emmaline Ann vineyards. The vineyard and its exquisite formal gardens of hedges, roses, lavender, olives and sycamores are hand tended by the couple owning and living on the property. Tasting Notes -- Ross Cobb's winemaker notes: "Aromas of orange peel, earth, flint, leather and tobacco. Flavors of cherry cola, minerals, vanilla, pepper, clove and cinnamon. Crisp acidity, firm tannins, and a long finish." -- Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar. Josh Raynolds. "Deep ruby-red. Highly expressive aromas of black raspberry, smoky minerals, violet and spicecake. Sweet and silky, with explosive red and dark berry flavors supported by zesty minerality. This impressively delineated, densely packed wine finishes with outstanding clarity and floral persistence." 92 Points. 240 cases produced. 17 months in barrel. 35% new French oak. 13.5% alcohol.
