Paul Mathew Ruxton Vineyard Pinot Noir 2008

Paul Mathew Ruxton Vineyard Pinot Noir 2008

#PAU08RU3 | 750mL

Slightly more fruit forward than the TNT Pinot, this '08 offering comes from Ruxton Vineyard, located in the western part of the Green Valley sub-region of the Russian River Valley. In the glass, you will get dark cherry and smooth tannin on the palate. Winemaker and vintner Mat Gustafson is the kind of winemaker that we like - he doesn't over-manipulate the fruit and strives to make elegant Pinots that represent the specific vineyards' terroir. - Kerrin Laz, Wine Director

Vineyards - The Ruxton Vineyard is located at the western edge of the Green Valley Appellation overlooking the Santa Rosa Plain with the Mayacama Mountains as a back drop. This east facing vineyard gets plenty of sun with it's elevation on the ridge line, usually above the fog. The Gold Ridge soil and moderate slope keep yields down and quality up. Dijon Clones 667, 777, and 115 are planted in this two acre block. The wines from this vineyard have black fruits, baking spices, and mushroom earthiness, with rich texture. Winemaking - Grapes were picked on Sept. 1st, chilled over night in cold storage and sorted, destemmed the next day. Native yeast fermentation started on Sept. 9th after a week of cold soaking. The wine finished fermentation on Sept. 17th and was pressed then barreled down the next day.. Malolactic fermentation finished Nov. 25th, was lightly sulphured and rached just before bottling in August. The wine was aged for 10 1/2 months in oak and bottled unfiltered. Winemaker's Notes - Fruit forward of dark cherry, plum with soft caramel, vanilla & a woodsy front, toasty mid & lots ofcherry on the finish. This wine has structured tannins that are not awkward but show ability of longevity.
