There is nothing easy about finding Franz Hill Vineyard. Away from the crowds and about 1200 feet above Calistoga, rests this tiny vineyard that in a bountiful year, will produce roughly a half-ton of fruit per acre. For vintner and winemaker Jack Bittner, who also is Cliff Lede's GM and VP, this is just the right amount and just high enough in quality for his tiny production of 285 cases. With rich, brambly fruit that's accentuated with cracked black pepper, we sure are glad that Jack found this vineyard. USA
